Burna Boy replies those criticising him for splashing N9bn on luxury car
Nigerian Singer Burna Boy Responds to Criticism Over Luxury Car Purchase
Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Damini Ogulu, known as Burna Boy, has addressed public backlash following his recent acquisition of a custom Venuum Widebody Bugatti Chiron, reportedly valued at 9 billion naira.
The announcement of the purchase drew significant scrutiny, with many critics condemning the artist for perceived extravagance. Detractors argued that he should focus on charitable efforts instead of spending on luxury items.
Moreover, some critics pointed out the challenges of importing such high-end vehicles to Nigeria, where road infrastructure is often inadequate for exotic automobiles.
During a performance at the Afronation concert in Portugal on Friday night, Burna Boy took a moment to respond to his critics in a freestyle verse. “I buy Bugatti, dem ask which road I go drive am? No be today we dey do road like Julius Berger,” he rapped, referencing the poor state of Nigerian roads.
Last year, Burna Boy made headlines following allegations from socialite Sophia Egbueje, who claimed he reneged on a promise to purchase her a Lamborghini in exchange for intimacy. While he did not confirm or deny her accusations, he included a reference to the situation in his song “No Do.” Subsequently, Egbueje announced that she had purchased the Lamborghini herself.
The public dispute drew considerable media attention and reportedly strained their relationship.
