Four Civilians Killed, Homes Destroyed in Niger State Attack
RAFI, Niger State — Four civilians were killed, and several homes were destroyed when armed assailants attacked two communities and a hospital on July 4, amid escalating tensions between Fulani and Kamuku groups in the Rafi Local Government Area.
Security expert Zagazola Makama reported that the violence unfolded in the villages of Anguwan Gizo and Anguwan Karaya. He noted that following the initial reports of the attacks, troops from the 45 Battalion, stationed at the Forward Operating Base in Kagara, conducted a patrol in the affected areas.
The attackers also targeted Asmau Hospital, where displaced residents had sought refuge from ongoing violence. Following the incidents, military personnel have established a presence in the region to deter further unrest and alleviate community fears.
In response to the violence, local authorities have implemented a 12-hour curfew from 7:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., aimed at preventing retaliatory attacks and restoring order. Makama indicated that security forces would maintain a strong presence while efforts continue to identify and apprehend those responsible for the assaults.
