Davido explains why he highlighted Nigeria’s kidnapping crisis at world cup stage

Afrobeats Star Davido Highlights Nigeria’s Kidnapping Crisis at FIFA World Cup Ceremony

Afrobeats artist Davido utilized the global stage of the FIFA World Cup opening ceremony to spotlight Nigeria’s escalating kidnapping crisis, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing citizen safety over national image.

During his performance, the artist highlighted the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State, drawing attention to a pressing humanitarian issue. He wore a specially designed outfit that featured the names of the missing victims, aiming to raise international awareness about their plight.

In a recent interview, Davido criticized the hesitance of some influential figures to openly discuss Nigeria’s security challenges. He argued that protecting the country’s reputation should not come at the expense of addressing the realities faced by innocent citizens.

“A lot of people do not want to talk about what is happening in my country because they want to protect a lot of images,” he stated. “Which image is there to protect if little children are being kidnapped?” He underscored the belief that human lives take precedence over public relations.

Davido also noted that while performing on such a prominent platform was an honor, he felt a responsibility to advocate for those who cannot speak for themselves. He urged artists and public figures to remain vocal on humanitarian and security issues, especially when vulnerable populations are involved. As of his remarks, the abducted students and their teachers remained unaccounted for.
