Barkin Ladi Youth Leader Ambushed a Day After Interview
BARKIN LADI, Plateau State — Pam Fom, president of the Dorowa Babuje Youth Council, was ambushed and shot by suspected Fulani militias on Wednesday, July 22, following an interview in which he condemned an earlier attack on his community.
The violence occurred less than 24 hours after Fom spoke with conflict journalist Masara Kim Usman regarding the killing of two youths in Dorowa by gunmen. According to Usman, Fom was attacked while traveling to a neighboring community.
In his interview, Fom detailed how the assailants disguised themselves among grazing cattle before targeting the two youths on a motorcycle. After the attack, the gunmen reportedly moved on to a nearby mining site, where they opened fire, injuring several miners.
Fom called upon government and security agencies to enhance protection for the local community, warning that without adequate measures, the youths might feel compelled to arm themselves for defense.
Tragically, hours after his remarks, Fom was ambushed and shot, leaving him critically injured.
Another youth leader, Titus Badung, corroborated the attack on social media. He highlighted Fom’s interview, noting the heightened dangers facing the community after the recent violence.
“The community youth leader of Dorowa Babuje, Mr. Pam Fom, who was interviewed yesterday by award-winning conflict reporter Masara Kim Usman, has reportedly been shot today,” Badung wrote. “He was attacked just a day after speaking about the earlier killings that had plunged the community into mourning.”
