Police Arrest Suspect in Tricycle Theft Incident in Yobe State
The Yobe State Police Command has apprehended a suspect linked to the theft of a commercial tricycle after allegedly incapacitating its rider with a suspected intoxicating substance.
According to police spokesperson SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the incident occurred on July 23 in Potiskum. The suspect reportedly posed as a passenger and gave the 25-year-old tricycle rider an unknown substance during the ride to Dubai, Garin Dala. As a result, the rider lost consciousness, enabling the suspect to escape with the vehicle.
The victim was transported to the State Specialist Hospital in Potiskum, where he is currently receiving treatment and is reported to be responding positively.
Following coordinated intelligence-sharing with neighboring states, law enforcement intercepted the suspect and recovered the stolen tricycle at a security checkpoint in Gaya Local Government Area, Kano State.
Commissioner of Police Usman Kanfani Jibrin praised the collaborative efforts of the involved security agencies and emphasized the need for a thorough investigation to identify and apprehend any accomplices.
In light of this incident, Jibrin urged commercial transport operators to exercise caution. He advised them to be wary of unusually high fares offered by suspicious passengers and to refrain from accepting food, drinks, or other consumables from strangers while on duty.
