Sokoto Police Foil Attack on Tauma Village
SOKOTO, Nigeria — The Sokoto State Police Command responded to a distress call on Monday reporting an attack by armed bandits on Tauma Village in the Bodinga Local Government Area. Tactical teams, including members from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and the Violence Crime Response Unit, were mobilized to the scene and successfully repelled the intruders.
According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufai, the operation led to the recovery of five magazines containing a total of 40 rounds of live ammunition from nearby bushes.
The security team engaged the bandits in a prolonged gun battle, ultimately forcing them to retreat into a surrounding forest. No casualties were reported among law enforcement or residents during the encounter.
In response to the incident, police officials have increased confidence-building patrols in the area to reassure residents and deter future attacks. Nearby police divisions have also been placed on high alert, instructed to monitor for any injured suspects who may seek medical treatment or attempt to evade capture.
Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity, particularly individuals exhibiting visible gunshot wounds, to local police or security agencies.
