Benue State Police Capture Suspected Ammunition Courier, Seize 115 Rounds of Ammo

The Benue State Police Command has arrested a suspect linked to the illegal transport of ammunition, recovering 115 rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition during a recent security operation.

In a statement, CSP Udeme Edet, the spokesperson for the command, detailed that the arrest occurred during a routine patrol when officers intercepted two men on a motorcycle. One of the suspects fled on foot upon noticing the police, while the other was apprehended.

The detained individual has been identified as Joro Jarkata, a 20-year-old male from Awe Local Government Area in Nasarawa State. Police conducted a search of Jarkata and discovered the ammunition concealed in his possession.

He remains in custody as the case has been referred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Makurdi for further investigation. Authorities are working to trace the source of the ammunition and its intended destination, as well as to identify any individuals involved in the illegal transportation of the consignment. Efforts are also underway to apprehend the suspect who fled.

Commissioner of Police Cletus Nwadiogbu praised the officers for their vigilance and quick response, which led to the successful interception. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to combating the proliferation of illegal firearms and dismantling criminal networks that threaten the safety of residents in Benue State.

The police command has encouraged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station.
