Kwara: Sixteen suspects in police custody for various alleged crimes

Kwara State Police Arrest 16 Suspects in Connection with Multiple Crimes

ILORIN, Nigeria — The Kwara State Police Command has announced the arrest of 16 individuals for a range of alleged offenses, including conspiracy, kidnapping, aiding and abetting kidnapping, and attempted murder.

Among those arrested are three minors: Ali Umaru, 16; Alhaji Mosu, 17; and Abacha Babagana, 14. They were taken into custody for unlawful possession of property believed to be stolen.

At a press conference held on Friday, Police Commissioner Adekimi Ojo reported that the operation, which occurred on July 20, 2026, around 5:30 p.m. along the Oko-Olowo/Alapa axis, resulted in the recovery of various items, including nine cartons of i17 Air Flip mobile phones, ten cartons of i17 Air Pro Flip mobile phones, four Oraimo power banks, and two wristwatches.

The police commissioner stated that the suspects have been placed in a juvenile correctional facility pending further proceedings.

Additionally, Aliyu Mohammed was arrested for similar allegations of conspiracy, kidnapping, aiding and abetting kidnapping, and attempted murder. This arrest followed a distress report received on July 15, 2026, regarding the abduction of 26-year-old Shekinat Mukaila in the Wande Community of the Oro-Ago Kingdom. During the kidnapping, her father, the Baale of the community, sustained gunshot injuries while attempting to rescue her. The police secured the area, and the injured Baale was transported to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, where he has since been discharged. Mukaila was later rescued.

In a related case, six members of a kidnapping syndicate have been apprehended in connection with the disappearance of Suleiman Rilwan, 29, who went missing on July 26, 2026. Mohammed Jamiu, the principal suspect, reportedly confessed to his involvement and led investigators to an area in Offa where Rilwan’s body was discovered in an abandoned well.

Following this confession, five additional suspects were arrested as part of the investigation.

Authorities also reported the arrest of five individuals linked to cult activities, identified as Oluwafemi Bukoye, Israel Ogungbe, Adesoye Abdulwarith, Dayo Sesan, and Ismail Abdul Malik.

Furthermore, four suspects — Ahmed Alhaji Ahmadu, Abubakar Mohammed, Mustapha Mohammed, and Mohammed Tsado — are in custody for criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, and culpable homicide in connection with the murder of Mohammadu A. on June 3, 2026.

According to Commissioner Ojo, the victim had gone grazing with his younger brothers and was last seen with an individual who offered to assist him in navigating back home. When he failed to return, a search party found his body in nearby bushes, showing signs of multiple injuries. Investigators noted that the victim’s motorcycle and an estimated N500,000 were missing.

Detectives secured the crime scene, and the body was transported to a medical facility for a post-mortem examination.
