Kebbi State Police Foil Cattle-Rustling Attack, One Suspect Neutralized
KEBBI, Nigeria — The Kebbi State Police Command, in collaboration with military and other security agencies, successfully thwarted a cattle-rustling attack by suspected bandits in the Bunza Local Government Area. During the operation, one of the suspects was neutralized.
The incident occurred in Tungan Babu Lada village, where the bandits shot and killed a 35-year-old man named Usman Ferungu, before fleeing with livestock. A quick response from a joint security team helped track the attackers shortly after the incident.
In a statement on Saturday, Police Public Relations Officer SP Bashir Usman detailed how operatives, led by the Divisional Police Officer of Kangiwa Division, pursued the suspects to Garin Mayo Mine. A gun battle ensued, resulting in the death of one suspect and the recovery of four motorcycles allegedly used in the crime.
Authorities stated that their swift action disrupted the bandits’ operations, preventing potential further attacks and additional casualties. The police emphasized their commitment to public safety and announced ongoing aggressive patrols and intelligence-driven operations throughout the state, in alignment with the proactive policing strategy of Commissioner of Police Umar Mohammed Hadeija.
Residents are encouraged to support security efforts by providing timely and reliable information to authorities, as officials seek to curtail criminal activities in Kebbi State.
