Ogun Police Arrest Murder Suspect Following Assault Incident
Ijebu North East, Ogun State – A 22-year-old suspect, identified only as Shaibu, has been apprehended by police in connection with a murder in the Alimafo area. The assault resulted in the death of 22-year-old Umaru Musa.
Police Public Relations Officer DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi confirmed the arrest, stating that initial investigations revealed the suspect allegedly attacked Musa following a prior disagreement involving Musa’s younger brother.
“Following coordinated efforts by police personnel and local community members, the suspect was traced and arrested,” Babaseyi said. He added that the case has been forwarded to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Abeokuta for further investigation and prosecution.
In a separate incident, operatives from Iperu Division rescued a 29-year-old abduction victim named Sotonwa Oluwameyowa along Ogere Road in Iperu-Remo. Babaseyi noted that the incident occurred on Monday around 8:15 p.m. After receiving a distress call, police coordinated with So-Safe Corps and Amotekun to initiate a search in the surrounding forest area.
“The pressure from the joint team forced the abductors to flee, resulting in the rescue of the victim within 24 hours of the abduction,” he added.
In other incidents across the state, the Ajuwon Division reported a violent assault along Ifedayo Street on July 28. Investigation revealed that a suspect, Dolapo, allegedly assaulted the complainant and took a double-barrel gun from his residence before fleeing. A subsequent search of the residence led to the recovery of another double-barrel gun and ten live cartridges. The complainant received medical attention, and efforts continue to locate the suspect.
On July 30, Ewekoro Division responded to an anonymous report regarding a cattle ranch invasion at Powerline, Itori. Detectives arrested Abubakar Bello and Jacob Bamidele at the scene while other accomplices escaped. A white Ford bus believed to have been used in the crime was also recovered.
Additionally, on July 31, detectives from the Agbado Division discovered two locally-made pistols and a live cartridge on a perimeter wall after a resident reported suspicious objects. The firearms have been secured for further examination, and investigations are ongoing.
Commissioner of Police CP Bode Ojajuni commended police personnel for their prompt responses and operational alertness. He emphasized the command’s commitment to intelligence-led operations, strategic patrols, and rapid responses, urging residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information to aid police efforts in safeguarding lives and property.
