Police arrest five suspected armed robbers in Adamawa

The Adamawa State Police Command has detained five individuals suspected of involvement in armed robbery in the Kofare area of Yola South Local Government.
Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the command’s public relations officer, announced the arrests in a statement on Tuesday. The suspects have been identified as Nura Aliyu, 20; Abubakar Adamu, 21; Abubakar Muhammed, 23; Abdulhameed Yusuf, 18; and Yusuf Husseini, 20.
The police allege that the suspects are affiliated with the Shila group, a term used to refer to gangs engaged in street violence, extortion, and robbery.
The arrests were made following intelligence reports concerning a recent armed robbery incident in the vicinity of Masallashi Biyu in Kofare. During the operation, police also recovered five machetes that they contend were used in the commission of the crimes.
Following the arrests, Adamawa State Commissioner of Police Kabir Umar Hassan ordered that the case be forwarded to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further inquiry and prosecution.
