Many terrorists eliminated as military airstrikes hit hideout in Zamfara

Nigerian military forces conducting Operation FANSAN YANMA launched air operations targeting suspected terrorists in the Yankuzo community of the Tsafe Local Government Area in Zamfara State. The operations, reported to have resulted in the deaths of several fighters, took place on the evening of September 7, 2026.
The information was shared on X by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security expert in the Lake Chad region. Local sources indicated that five military aircraft participated in a coordinated effort over the community during the operation.
While sources reported that many of the suspected terrorists were killed, precise casualty figures have not been confirmed. Among those reportedly killed was Isiya Gurgu, identified as a close associate of a notorious bandit leader known as Musa Commander. This figure is alleged to have connections with the Ado Aleru network, which is involved in various criminal activities in the region.
The report further claims that Musa Commander has influence over several communities under terrorist control, including Tsamiya and nearby settlements.
Authorities reportedly exercised caution during the air operation to minimize civilian casualties, focusing engagement on individuals who were armed or dressed in military-style clothing. Additionally, several other suspected terrorists were reported injured during the event.
Yankuzo has been characterized as a stronghold for armed groups associated with the Ado Aleru network, and residents have been facing ongoing threats from militants operating in and around the area.
More information regarding the casualties and the overall outcome of the operation is anticipated as security agencies continue to assess the situation.
