Plateau: 13 killed, others injured in attacks across 3 LGA’s in Jos


Thirteen residents were killed and several others injured in a series of attacks across Jos South, Mangu, and Riyom Local Government Areas in Plateau State over the weekend.

The assaults began Sunday night when a group of suspected militants ambushed a vehicle carrying nine passengers traveling to Jos. The attack occurred around 9:40 p.m. in the Dungus community of Jos South. Rwang Tengwong, the National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders (BYM), confirmed the incident, stating that some passengers were injured and subsequently transported to local hospitals, where some later succumbed to their injuries.

One of the deceased, according to Tengwong, was a member of Operation Rainbow, a local security initiative. He characterized the occurrence as “a sad development.”

In a separate incident, two people were killed in Vodni community, located in Pushit District of Mangu Local Government Area. Four additional individuals sustained gunshot wounds and are currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Mangu Town.

In Riyom Local Government Area, two individuals were reported dead in Tahoos during a separate attack around the same time.

The recent violence has heightened concerns regarding the security situation in Plateau State, prompting residents and community leaders to call for enhanced measures to protect their lives and property. As of now, authorities from the Plateau State Police Command have not issued a statement regarding these incidents.
