Two arrested in Adamawa over theft from Bamanga Tukur’s farm
Two men were arrested in Adamawa State for allegedly stealing irrigation pipes from a farm owned by the late elder statesman Bamanga Tukur, authorities reported on Friday, shortly after Tukur’s passing.
The Adamawa State Police Command stated that its officers apprehended the suspects for the alleged theft of eight underground irrigation water pipes valued at 3 million naira from Tukur’s farm, located in the Yola South Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson Suleiman Nguroje identified the suspects as 45-year-old Ibrahim Mohammed from Wauro Jabbe and 28-year-old Jemilu Yahaya, a scavenger from Jambutu Bypass. They were taken into custody by personnel from the Kofare Divisional Police Headquarters in Yola based on credible intelligence.
Nguroje indicated that preliminary investigations suggest Mohammed is accused of stealing the irrigation pipes and selling them to Yahaya. Officers have recovered one Carry-go motorcycle along with the stolen pipes.
The suspects remain in police custody while investigations continue, with plans for them to be charged in court following the completion of the inquiry.
