US Rep raises alarm over attacks, killing of Christians in Plateau
U.S. Representative Anna Paulina has raised concerns about the ongoing violence against Christians in Plateau State, Nigeria. In a statement shared on her verified X account on Friday, Paulina described a series of attacks attributed to Fulani ethnic militia and Islamist extremists.
The lawmaker criticized both state and federal authorities for their inadequate response to protect Christian communities, who have reportedly faced persistent threats. Paulina’s post, titled “What is happening in Nigeria right now?”, highlighted the dire situation for thousands of residents in Plateau State amid escalating violence.
“Hundreds of Fulani ethnic militia terrorists descended on Christian communities across Plateau State,” she stated, noting that many civilians are in grave danger while Nigerian security forces struggled to address the violence.
In her remarks, Paulina detailed a series of violent incidents against Christians and other civilians, including the recent shootings of a pastor and his church secretary on their way to worship. She also reported that five Christians were ambushed while traveling in a vehicle, alongside other incidents of attacks on local residents.
“A civilian guard was killed outside his own home. A man and his son were beaten and left in critical condition,” Paulina said.
The congresswoman expressed concern that security agencies have not adequately responded to prior warnings and alerts about impending attacks, questioning the effectiveness of their measures to protect the vulnerable communities.
