US-Iran War: Plateau police assures residents of sustained security vigilance

Plateau State Police Enhance Security Amid Rising Tensions

The Plateau State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining security and increasing vigilance in response to escalating tensions stemming from the recent U.S.-Iran conflict and the assassination of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

The killing of Khamenei has sparked protests in various locations throughout Nigeria, particularly among members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), commonly known as Shi’ites. Demonstrators have taken to the streets to express their outrage against U.S. military actions in Iran in collaboration with Israel.

In an effort to mitigate potential unrest, the state police command has implemented enhanced intelligence-driven policing strategies in cooperation with other security agencies. This proactive approach aims to prevent any disruptions to public order.

In a statement released on Tuesday by police spokesman DSP Alfred Alabo on behalf of Commissioner of Police Bassey Ewah, the command emphasized that while Plateau State remains stable, it has bolstered surveillance, intensified intelligence gathering, and strengthened dialogue with traditional, religious, and community leaders.

The statement further noted that increased patrols and visibility policing have been deployed around places of worship and public areas to effectively respond to any activities that could exploit current global turmoil.

“While Plateau State remains stable and our internal security situation is firmly under control, we have reinforced proactive, intelligence-led policing measures to guarantee continued peace and security,” Ewah said.

He emphasized that the police command would not permit the state to become a venue for foreign conflicts, warning that any attempts to introduce external ideological or religious tensions would face strict legal consequences.

Ewah urged residents to stay calm, vigilant, and law-abiding, and encouraged them to report any suspicious activities to local law enforcement or through designated emergency numbers. The police reaffirmed their commitment to protecting lives and property throughout the state.
