Kano State Police Arrest Nine Suspects in Various Crimes
The Kano State Police Command has announced the arrest of nine individuals linked to illegal firearms, armed robbery, and livestock theft during separate operations throughout the state.
In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, it was revealed that the operations took place on August 13, 2026, based on credible intelligence and information from community members.
Police officials from the Dorayi Babba Division reported intercepting a suspicious parcel at Rijiyar Zaki Motor Park around 2:30 p.m., which contained a Tokarev pistol along with 48 rounds of 7.62-mm live ammunition. The suspect apprehended at the scene allegedly admitted to purchasing the firearm and ammunition from another state and intended to deliver them elsewhere. Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend additional suspects involved in the illegal arms supply network.
In a separate incident in Rogo Local Government Area, officers from the Rogo Police Division detained five suspected armed robbers in Jajaye Village. The suspects have been identified as Basiru Ibrahim, 25; Saidu Madaki, 23; Sa’adu Ibrahim, 25; Lawan Yusuf, 24; and Muktar Salisu, 21. Preliminary investigations connected the suspects to four incidents of criminal trespass and armed robbery in Jajaye Village and nearby areas. The group is also believed to have stolen five motorcycles and other valuables.
Additionally, police recovered a stolen cow and ram in Gaya. Two men, identified as Karimu Mamman and Madama from Jube Village, were apprehended while allegedly in possession of the stolen livestock. Further investigations resulted in the arrest of two more suspects allegedly linked to this theft.
All suspects have been charged and are set to be prosecuted in court.
Kano State Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori commended local residents for their vigilance and prompt information, acknowledging that public cooperation has played a crucial role in the recent successes of the Command.
“The Command remains committed to enhancing community policing, gathering intelligence, and fostering inter-agency collaboration to ensure the safety and security of Kano State for all residents,” Bakori said. He also recognized the professionalism and dedication of officers from the Dorayi Babba, Rogo, and Gaya Divisions.
