Kano State Fire Service Responds to Surge in Fire Outbreaks

KANO, Nigeria — The Kano State Fire Service reported responding to 30 fire incidents throughout the state in June 2026, resulting in the loss of five lives.

In a statement released Monday, Public Relations Officer Saminu Yusif Abdullahi detailed the agency’s activities across the 44 local government areas within the state. The report indicated that the Fire Service conducted seven emergency rescue operations during the same period, although one false alarm was recorded.

The agency noted that three individuals were rescued amid various emergencies, while five deaths occurred during separate incidents. Fire outbreaks in June caused property damages estimated at N120.45 million; however, firefighters also managed to save property valued at N481.8 million.

Sani Anas, Director of the Kano State Fire Service, urged residents to exercise caution when using fire. “Members of the public should ensure that all sources of fire are completely extinguished after use to prevent avoidable fire outbreaks,” he stated.

Additionally, Anas appealed to parents and guardians to supervise their children closely in order to mitigate drowning risks. “Parents and guardians should prevent children from playing near puddles, ponds, rivers, or uncovered wells to reduce incidents of drowning, particularly among young people,” he advised.

Anas reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property through prompt emergency responses and public safety initiatives, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation.
