Moniepoint loan officer arrested over alleged ₦74m fraud in Yobe

Yobe State Police have apprehended a 32-year-old Field Loan Officer identified as Thlakham Daniel, in connection with an alleged fraud scheme involving seven Point-of-Sale (POS) operators in Damaturu, the state capital.
The arrest was announced by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Yusuf Adamu Ali, in a statement released on Friday, September 4, 2026. According to the report, the seven operators filed separate complaints at the ‘A’ Divisional Headquarters, alleging that Daniel visited their businesses on multiple occasions to profile their accounts, claiming to assist them in securing loans.
The operators asserted that Daniel subsequently acquired loans through their accounts without their knowledge or consent.
In response to the complaints, police detectives initiated an investigation that led to Daniel’s arrest, along with a vehicle believed to have been purchased with the proceeds of the alleged crime. Preliminary findings indicate that the total amount involved in the fraudulent transactions is approximately ₦74 million.
