Natasha’s Suspension Forgery Allegation: ‘We’ll review Oshiomhole’s comments’ – Senate

Senate to Review Allegations of Signature Forgery in Suspension Case

The Senate of Nigeria has announced that it will review allegations of signature forgery related to the suspension of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central. This follows claims made by Senator Adams Oshiomhole (Edo North) that several senators’ names were included without their consent on the committee report that led to Akpoti-Uduaghan’s six-month suspension.

Senate spokesperson Yemi Adaramodu addressed the issue in an interview with The Cable. He stated, “The Senate will take a cursory look at either extraneous, spontaneous or intentional comments from any senator appropriately.”

Oshiomhole has voiced concerns, asserting that at least three senators informed him they had neither signed the report nor endorsed its recommendations. Adaramodu emphasized that while the Senate will investigate these statements, no senator has formally reported any instance of forgery concerning the suspension matter.

“The issue was openly debated on the floor of the Senate, under the scrutiny of the public and international audience,” Adaramodu added. He reiterated that there is transparency in the process and insisted that the Senate operates under established protocols.

Regarding the independence of the senators, Adaramodu remarked, “No one will claim they were coerced, nor will anyone say their signature was forged. Such occurrences simply do not happen in the Senate.” He characterized the senators as mature and self-governing individuals, capable of addressing any grievances independently.

The Senate’s review of Oshiomhole’s comments will clarify its stance on the allegations surrounding Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s suspension.
