Israel Police Kill Two Suspects Linked to Central Shooting Incident

Published June 7, 2026

At least one man has been killed and five others wounded in what Israeli police have described as a suspected terror attack in central Israel.

The Israeli rescue service Magen David Adom reported that a 35-year-old man succumbed to gunshot wounds sustained during the incident on Sunday. The other victims were transported to two hospitals, two of whom are reported to be in serious condition.

Following a manhunt, Israeli police announced that they killed a suspect believed to be involved in the shooting. This individual was identified as a Palestinian with Israeli citizenship from the nearby city of Tayibe. Authorities stated that police, border guards, and special units were actively searching for additional suspects. The weapon used in the attack has since been recovered.

Israeli police urged the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity.

Earlier accounts indicated that Israeli forces responded after receiving reports of gunfire directed at pedestrians at a gas station near Kochav Yair, close to the occupied West Bank city of Qalqilya. According to the Israeli Broadcasting Authority, the attacker initiated a shooting spree at Kochav Yair, which extended to the entrances of nearby towns, including Tzur Yitzhak and Tzur Natan.

Sources have informed Army Radio that both the Israeli internal security agency and police have begun a series of raids in Tayibe, imposing security cordons in several neighboring Arab villages.

The militant group Hamas praised the attack as a “heroic operation,” but did not explicitly claim responsibility.

In response to the incident, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office convened a situational assessment.

Lior Zilberberg of Magen David Adom detailed the emergency response. “We were conducting a large training exercise in a nearby community when we received reports of gunshot casualties at several locations. We immediately halted the exercise and dispatched intensive care units and ambulances to the gas station in Kochav Yair and the surrounding towns,” he said.

Zilberberg recounted that while en route, civilians alerted him to an unconscious victim inside a vehicle. “He was pulseless and not breathing, with multiple gunshot wounds. After medical assessment, we were forced to pronounce him dead. Near the vehicle, another conscious victim was found, suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper body. After initial treatment at the scene, he was evacuated for further care.”
