‘Religious obligation’ – Sheikh Gumi reacts to killing of ISIS leader, Al-Minuki by US military

Religious Leader Condemns Method of Terrorist Combat Following Al-Minuki’s Death
ISLAMABAD—Islamic cleric Ahmad Gumi has issued a statement in response to the recent killing of Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, the alleged second-in-command of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), during a joint operation conducted by American and Nigerian military forces.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, Gumi described the fight against terrorism as a religious obligation but criticized the involvement of forces he characterized as having “hands stained with the blood of innocent men, women, and children.” He emphasized the importance of eradicating terrorism without resorting to violence against innocents.
“It’s a religious obligation to annihilate terrorists, but not with Beelzebub,” Gumi wrote, underscoring the need for ethical conduct in such operations.
The cleric’s remarks came shortly after former U.S. President Donald Trump announced the success of the military operation that led to al-Minuki’s death. Trump shared the details in a post on his Truth Social account, noting that extensive intelligence gathering and strategic coordination facilitated the assault on the ISIS leader.
According to Trump, al-Minuki was a prominent figure within ISIS who played a significant role in coordinating attacks and supporting terrorist activities targeting Americans and communities in Africa. He asserted that the operation would greatly diminish ISIS’s operational capacity and influence in the region.
Trump expressed gratitude toward the Nigerian government and military for their collaboration during the mission.
