President Tinubu Meets ICPC Chairman Amid Ongoing Investigation

ABUJA — President Bola Tinubu met with Dr. Musa Aliyu, Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), on Thursday at the Presidential Villa. The meeting, which began at approximately 5:40 p.m., did not have a publicly stated agenda at the time of this report.

This meeting follows Tinubu’s directive for a comprehensive forensic investigation into a scandal involving the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), which was discussed during the Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday.

The ICPC has previously reported the existence of at least two other fraudulent agencies operating within government institutions. Aliyu had presented an interim report regarding the PFIPC investigation to Tinubu on August 6. This report indicated that the alleged promoter of the PFIPC, Adeniyi Matthew Adeyemi, never held an official appointment from the Federal Government. The investigation concluded that the PFIPC was not established through any lawful means or formal government documents.

Adeyemi has accused Femi Gbajabiamila, the President’s Chief of Staff, of soliciting and accepting ₦400 million for assistance in securing his appointment. However, according to the ICPC’s interim findings, the appointment letter Adeyemi submitted was forged and not issued by the Presidency.

Additionally, the commission identified two other fictitious agencies reportedly created by Adeyemi: the FCT Investment Promotion Agency and the Foreign Investment Promotion Agency and Public-Private Partnership. The ICPC claims that Adeyemi used counterfeit documents to set up bank accounts for these entities. The investigation also revealed that Adeyemi unlawfully accessed the former office of the Presidential Economic Advisory Council by forcibly gaining entry.

The ICPC has recommended that Adeyemi face prosecution and has called for administrative measures against public officials who may have played a role in the scandal. The commission further proposed reforms aimed at strengthening internal controls across the relevant government ministries, departments, and agencies.

Details regarding the discussions between Tinubu and Aliyu have yet to be disclosed.
