Tinubu swears-in new housing minister Muttaqha Darma

President Bola Tinubu officially sworn in Dr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma as the new Minister of Housing and Urban Development on Friday, following his approval by the Senate. Dr. Darma succeeds Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, who recently resigned from the position.
During a brief ceremony at the State House, President Tinubu congratulated Dr. Darma for taking office during a challenging period for national development.
“You have a very rich and interesting background,” President Tinubu said. “As a leader, we need competent hands like yours. There is no doubt that you have rendered valuable services in all the assignments you have undertaken. You are a fitting peg in the right position.”
The President encouraged Dr. Darma to be prepared to serve in any capacity required of him.
Dr. Darma, a distinguished scholar and development expert from Katsina State, holds a Doctor of Business Administration from the University of Liverpool and a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Atlantic International University in the United States. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Bayero University, Kano, followed by a Master’s in Manufacturing Engineering from the University of Benin.
His professional affiliations include membership in the Nigerian Society of Engineers and the Nigerian Institute of Management. From 2008 to 2012, Dr. Darma served as Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund and has held various key positions, including Commissioner for Works, Housing, and Transport, as well as Commissioner for Rural and Social Development in Katsina State.
In addition to his administrative roles, Dr. Darma has been involved in academia as a lecturer at Bayero University, Kano, and is recognized for his publications on governance and development. Prior to his current appointment, he served as President of the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Human Development Centre in Katsina.
