Troops arrest suspected ISWAP spy over planned attack on Borno bases
Troops Arrest Suspected ISWAP Operative in Borno State
Borno State, Nigeria — Troops involved in Operation Hadin Kai have apprehended a man suspected of collaborating with the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) amid an alleged plot to attack two military bases in the region.
The suspect, identified as Muhammad Shuaibu, was arrested by the 212 Battalion at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Chabbol, following intelligence reports indicating a potential terrorist assault. According to military sources reported by counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, Shuaibu was taken into custody during a routine patrol approximately 500 meters from an anti-vehicle ditch protecting the military installation.
The arrest was described by military officials as stemming from “credible human intelligence” concerning an imminent attack. Preliminary investigations have reportedly linked Shuaibu to plans targeting the 199 Special Forces Battalion, often referred to as Mosquito Camp, and the FOB in Chabbol.
Sources within the military indicated that during interrogations, Shuaibu confessed to the existence of a planned attack and suggested that the terrorist group intended to proceed with its operation despite his capture.
As a result of the arrest, military officials stated that security measures around the affected bases are being tightened to bolster defenses against any potential threats. The suspect has since been transferred to the 7 Military Intelligence Brigade for further investigation.
This operation is part of the ongoing efforts by Operation Hadin Kai to disrupt terrorist activities, dismantle insurgent networks, and enhance security for military formations throughout Nigeria’s northeastern region.
