Troops neutralise suspected bandits, recover rustled livestock in Plateau

Troops Neutralize Suspected Bandit Amid Jos South Security Operation

In a recent operation, troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) neutralized a suspected bandit following an attack on security personnel in the Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State.

The encounter occurred during a clearance operation initiated around 7 a.m. on June 26, prompted by credible intelligence regarding the activities of armed livestock rustlers near the Gero high grounds.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security expert in the Lake Chad region, the troops intercepted a herd of cattle grazing on cultivated farmland. Shortly thereafter, they came under sporadic gunfire from suspected militia members.

In response, the troops maintained their positions and requested reinforcements. Additional troops from Sector 3 at Rafin Bauna, along with reinforcements led by the Commander of Sector 6, rapidly mobilized to the scene and engaged the assailants in a firefight.

During the exchange, one suspected bandit was neutralized while others fled. A subsequent search of the area revealed two mobile phones and 14,000 Naira, believed to have been left behind by the fleeing suspects.

The intercepted cattle were relocated to a secure location for further action. OPEP troops have since continued clearance operations and patrols to prevent further attacks and restrict the activities of criminal elements in Plateau State.
