EPL: ‘This is disrespect’ – Evra slams Walcott for comparing 2008 Man United to Arteta’s side

Former Manchester United Defender Evra Criticizes Walcott’s Comparison of Teams

Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has reiterated his criticism of former Arsenal striker Theo Walcott for recently comparing the 2008 Manchester United squad to the current Arsenal team, which is vying for the title.

In January, excitement surged among Manchester United fans when Walcott inquired of Wayne Rooney, prior to Arsenal’s Champions League match against Inter Milan, whether the 2008 Manchester United team could compete with Mikel Arteta’s 2025-26 squad. Rooney responded emphatically, asserting that the United team from 2008 would “batter” the current Arsenal lineup.

Evra, addressing Walcott’s comments, remarked that the former Arsenal forward appeared intoxicated during the discussion and advised him to refrain from punditry.

During a recent segment with former United teammates Rio Ferdinand and Ryan Giggs, Ferdinand brought up Walcott’s remarks. Evra, in a lighthearted but pointed response, suggested that comparisons between the two teams reflect broader issues within Arsenal. He stated, “That’s the problem with Arsenal. Now he’s comparing this team to our 2008 team.”

Continuing his criticism, Evra described Walcott as “a threat to society” and warned that his presence on television is problematic, asserting that such comparisons could mislead viewers. “He should never be on TV again if he starts asking questions like that,” Evra declared.

The former defender also recalled past statements where he characterized Arsenal’s title race as akin to a scripted television series, emphasizing his belief that they operate on “false beliefs.” He concluded that Walcott’s comments represent a level of disrespect not befitting a pundit.
