Anambra State Police Rescues Kidnapped Electrician, Arrests Three Suspects
The Anambra State Police Command has successfully rescued a kidnapped electrician and apprehended three suspects involved in the incident.
On April 18, 2026, a joint operation by the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu and members of the Agunechemba Vigilante Group from Nnobi was launched following credible intelligence. The team targeted a wooded area in Awuda, Nnobi, located in Idemili North Local Government Area.
According to a statement released on Friday by Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga, officers located the suspects at a forest hideout in Umuezeala Awuda Village. Three men were taken into custody at the scene: Chidalu Obi, 25; Chichebem Ojenigbo, 26; and Chikannechukwu Eze, 20.
The victim, an electrician, was reportedly lured to the meeting site with false promises of job opportunities. Upon his arrival, he was ambushed, blindfolded at gunpoint, and taken into the bush, where he was held captive.
Authorities recovered several items during the operation, including a locally made Beretta pistol and a ransom totaling ₦469,000. Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects had received the ransom, which had allegedly been transferred to a SportyBet account linked to Obi.
During interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to their involvement in the crime.
In response to the incident, the Police Command emphasized its dedication to eliminating criminal activities in the state and ensuring the safety of its residents. The command also encouraged the public to share timely and credible information with law enforcement, highlighting the importance of community collaboration in combatting kidnapping and other violent crimes.
