Wike: No more ‘vagabonds’ in PDP; they’ve been expelled  —  Makinde

OYO, Nigeria — Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde announced on Tuesday that members he referred to as “vagabonds” have been expelled from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), claiming this marks an end to ongoing internal conflicts within the party.

Makinde made the comments during the unveiling of the Oyo State PDP secretariat, appearing to address remarks made by former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike earlier this week.

During the PDP’s 105th National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja on Monday, Wike expressed his commitment to protect the party from what he termed “internal vampires” and proclaimed interest in the activities of the Oyo State chapter.

Addressing supporters in Ibadan, Makinde stated that the party has successfully removed individuals responsible for its prolonged crises since losing federal power in 2015.

“In Yoruba land, we always say that if you see a house or a compound that is peaceful, the vagabond in that house has not grown up,” Makinde said, referencing the group’s rise within the party after the loss of leadership.

He explained that the group had dominated the PDP for nearly a decade before their recent expulsion in November 2025. “They grew up in 2015, they had their time, and for 10 years, a decade, they practiced their vagabondry in the PDP. But they have been expelled,” he stated.

Makinde also clarified that the Oyo State government would remain uninvolved in the party’s internal legal issues and disputes over national leadership. “Finally, the government has no interest in PDP lawyer states and no interest in PDP nationally,” he said.

Reflecting on his previous political associations, Makinde acknowledged his prior collaboration with the expelled group. “Let me confess. I came into government in 2019, and towards 2023, I was yoked with them. But now, I’ve repented,” he remarked, asserting he would oppose any attempts by the group to regain control of the party.

He emphasized the diminishing influence of the group. “They are wearing rags, dancing around at midnight, and they will soon scatter,” Makinde added.
