Lagos State Enforcement Unit Arrests 46 Suspects in Operation Against Criminal Activities
The Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit has apprehended 46 individuals during a recent enforcement operation targeting criminal activity across the state.
The coordinated effort began at approximately 9 a.m. on Friday and focused on key areas including Lagos Island, Victoria Island, and the Lekki corridor.
Abdulraheem Gbadeyan, the agency’s spokesperson, provided details in a statement issued on Friday. The operation involved locations such as Muri-Okunola Park, Obalende Underbridge, Law School Junction, Maroko, the Sandfill area near Mobil Bus Stop, and Marwa Bus Stop.
Gbadeyan noted that the initiative is part of an ongoing campaign to eliminate street urchins, miscreants, and individuals suspected of drug-related offenses. The enforcement team specifically targeted suspected drug dealers, illegal commercial motorcyclists, street vendors, and ticket touts operating without permits.
During the operation, authorities seized various items, including substances believed to be Indian hemp, Colorado, and cannabis. Additionally, a cutlass and a locally made Dane gun were recovered.
According to Gbadeyan, peace has been restored in the areas affected by the operation. The Chairman of the Taskforce, CSP Adetayo Akerele, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to ensuring that criminal elements cannot find refuge in Lagos State.
Akerele assured residents that similar enforcement operations will continue to enhance public safety and maintain order throughout the state.
Gbadeyan confirmed that the arrested individuals will face prosecution under the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law of 2017, as well as the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.
