Troops Rescue Family of Abducted Zamfara Council Chairman

ZAMFARA, Nigeria — Military personnel involved in Operation FANSAN YAMMA successfully rescued five family members of Nura Umar Abdullahi, the Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area, after a terrorist attack at his residence on Saturday. Efforts are currently underway to secure the release of Abdullahi, who was abducted during the assault.

The attack occurred in the early hours of Saturday when armed terrorists stormed Abdullahi’s home, resulting in the deaths of three members of his security detail, including two police officers and a local vigilante. A civilian was also killed in the incident, and Abdullahi’s elder brother, Alhaji Bello Umar, sustained injuries.

Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, the Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force (North West), announced the developments in a statement released on Saturday. He confirmed that the rescued individuals include two of Abdullahi’s children, his wife, mother, and another relative.

Danja reported that troops responded quickly upon hearing gunfire, engaging the attackers in fierce combat. The confrontations forced the terrorists to abandon the five family members during their retreat into nearby bushes, although they managed to take the council chairman with them.

In response to the abduction, the Theatre Command has initiated a coordinated search-and-rescue operation, mobilizing troops from Operation FANSAN YAMMA, the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and local vigilante groups. The military has assured the Zamfara State Government and the public that all necessary resources are being deployed to ensure the chairman’s safe return.

The command has also urged the community to remain calm and provide any pertinent information through established security channels to aid the ongoing operation.

Authorities reiterated their commitment to safeguarding lives and property, pledging to collaborate with other security agencies until the abducted chairman is recovered and the perpetrators held accountable.
