CAF Plans to Expand Africa Cup of Nations to 28 Teams
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced plans to increase the number of teams participating in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) from 24 to 28. This change aims to enhance competitiveness and provide more nations with the opportunity to participate on the continental stage.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe stated that the expansion will enable more countries to compete at a high level and showcase their talent, contributing to the growth of football across Africa.
Additionally, the tournament will shift from a biennial event to being held every four years. Motsepe emphasized that this change will allow nations ample time to prepare, improve their squads, and foster competitive consistency.
