Lagos Police Arrest More Suspects in High-Profile Murder Case
LAGOS—The Lagos State Police Command has arrested additional suspects linked to the murder of Prince Ademola Akinloye, the son of Oba Tijani Akinloye, the Ajiran of Agungi. Akinloye was fatally shot on August 26, 2024, near Ebeano Supermarket along Chevron Drive in the Agungi area.
Following the incident, authorities detained nine individuals based on investigative leads and intelligence connecting them to the murder. Some of these suspects are also believed to be involved in the earlier murder of Sheriff Salami, who was killed on April 18, 2023, in the Moba community of Ajah.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh provided an update at a press briefing in Ikeja, where he confirmed the recent arrests. While he did not disclose the exact number of new suspects apprehended, Jimoh indicated that they had made voluntary confessional statements regarding their participation in the crime.
“During the investigation, we have apprehended more suspects who have voluntarily confessed to the roles they played in the crime,” he stated, emphasizing the police’s commitment to thoroughly investigate the case.
Efforts are ongoing to locate the principal suspect, Ahmad Akanbi, who remains at large and has been declared wanted in connection with the incident.
“We are still pursuing him and have not relented in our efforts,” Jimoh said. “The command remains determined to ensure that justice is served and that all those responsible for criminal acts are brought before the law.”
In a related development, the Ojomu Royal Family of Ajiran announced its participation in the investigation into both Akinloye’s and Salami’s murders. In a public notice signed by Oba Tijani Adetunji Akinloye and Alhaji Yekini Olawale Bakare, the family highlighted that the killings occurred in broad daylight within the Ojomu community.
The royal family stated that their involvement aims to ensure accountability for the crimes and to help restore a sense of safety in the kingdom. They also expressed a desire for justice and closure for the victims’ families.
