Yobe State Police Arrest Three Suspects in Vandalism Probe
DAMATURU, Yobe State — The Yobe State Police Command has arrested three individuals suspected of vandalism as part of a renewed effort to combat the destruction of public infrastructure. Authorities have also recovered stolen power cables and a tricycle linked to the incidents.
On Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, announced the arrests in a press release made available to journalists.
According to the statement, officers from the Gashua Area Command acted on credible intelligence that led them to apprehend Abubakar Idris, 27, an aluminum pot maker from the Sabon Gari area of Gashua Local Government Area. He was taken into custody on July 23, 2026, after being found in possession of two large bundles of suspected stolen power cables.
Further investigation resulted in the arrests of two additional suspects: Sumaila Suleiman, 25, and Ibrahim Ado, 26.
The police also recovered a tricycle, commonly known as Keke NAPEP, with registration number 497 DPH, which is alleged to have been used to transport the stolen materials. An unregistered motorcycle believed to have been involved in the operations was also seized.
The police command stated that investigations are ongoing to identify other members of the syndicate who remain at large and to ascertain the source and ownership of the recovered items.
