Transfer: Arteta reveals why some players must leave Arsenal

Arsenal Manager Mikel Arteta acknowledged that some players may need to leave the club to be valued as he addressed the media Thursday, ahead of the Premier League’s opening match against Coventry City at the Emirates.

Arteta assured reporters that Myles Lewis-Skelly would remain with Arsenal beyond this season. He faced questions regarding the potential need for difficult conversations regarding player departures.

Several players, including Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus, and Ethan Nwaneri, have been rumored to be considering moves away from the club.

“It’s a really, really tough moment. We need to face that reality,” Arteta said, emphasizing the importance of honesty and transparency in these discussions. “When you’re on the other side, it’s exactly what you need. You might not like what you’ve been told, but if it’s truthful, it’s helpful in making better decisions and gaining clarity for your next career steps.”

Arteta acknowledged the challenges inherent in such discussions but stressed their necessity. “Without talking about any specifics, it is something we are working on with every individual. I want to have the squad as big as possible because we know what we’re fighting for. We learned from the past, especially last year when we faced injuries in multiple positions.”

He concluded, “The deeper our squad is, the better. But the players have to feel valued and feel important.”
